Switching Health Insurance
How to Easily Switch Your Health Insurance
When the monthly premiums of an insurer increase, many policyholders think about switching health insurances. Such a switch can bring annual savings of several hundred to a thousand Swiss Francs. However, the conditions for switching basic insurance differ from those of supplementary insurance. If you are considering changing your health insurance, here are important tips on how to proceed.

Switching Health Insurance: How to Proceed
Every autumn, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) sets the premiums for health insurances for the following year. By October 31st at the latest, health insurances are obligated to inform their members in writing about the updated monthly contributions. After receiving this letter, you have the opportunity to change your basic insurance by the end of the year.
Compare Offers
Before making a switch, it's recommended to compare offers from various health insurances. This way, you can find the provider that best suits your needs and is the most cost-effective.
Consider Insurance Models
During this comparison, also consider whether switching to a different insurance model could be advantageous. Further savings can be achieved by choosing a higher annual deductible.
Next Steps
- 1Request offers from one or more health insurances
- 2Choose the best offer and register with the new health insurance
- 3Don't forget to cancel your current health insurance
